Hi Everybody,

Hard to believe the annual post Winter Warriors Phenix Chili Cook-Off (CCO) and Putting Competition is only a week and a half away. It will take place on Saturday, Dec. 7th after Winter Warriors at Bird's Nest (roughly 12:30pm). You're not going to want to miss out on this as it's super fun and it's yet another way to contribute to the Food Bank of the Rockies!

Here are some details about the CCO & Putting Competition:

WHAT:
CCO: A Chili Cook-Off competition! It's free to enter a chili (or chilis) to compete for prizes, Winter Warrior mulligans and of course bragging rights! There will be two divisions: Red and Green. Even if you don't submit a chili you play an important role as a taster and judge! The cost to get in to taste/judge is $7.00 cash or $1.00 per non-perishable food item donated. Everybody votes on their favorite chilis. If you're submitting a chili and participating in WW9 at Bird's Nest, you can drop your chili off at Mile High Billiards (64th & Simms) prior to checking in at Bird's Nest. If you're not participating in WW at Bird's Nest and you would like to submit a chili then please drop it off at your convenience before 12:00pm.

PUTTING COMPETITION: While the CCO is going on there will be a putting competition for prizes, Winter Warrior mulligans and bragging rights! The difference this year is that the final bracket will consist of 32 players. To make it into the Top 32 you must post a qualifying score that is in the Top 32 or submit a chili. All participants that submit a chili for the CCO will secure a spot on the bracket (but will still need to pay the Putting Competition entry). The cost for an initial qualification attempt is $10 (or 10 non-perishable food items). This year there will not be a player's package for the Putting Competition. If you post a good score you may make it into the Top 32 on your first attempt. If you don't post a great score and you don't think you can make the Top 32 you can buy in for another attempt for $2.00 (or 2 non-perishable food items) to try and qualify. You can attempt to qualify up to 6 times (your initial qualification attempt plus a max of 5 more attempts), which would cost up to $20 (or 20 non-perishable food items).

WHO: Anybody is welcome to attend! You don't have to go to WW at Bird's Nest to attend. Families and kids are welcome and encouraged to attend!

WHERE: Mile High Billiards (NW corner of 64th & Simms)

WHEN: Saturday, December 7th at roughly 12:30pm after WW9 at Bird's Nest. If you're not participating in WW at Bird's Nest, you're welcome to go over before 12:30.

DONATIONS: Tasting/judging: $7.00 or 7 non-perishable food items, Putting Entry/Qualification: $10 or 10 non-perishable food items, Putting Competition Qualification re-attempts: $2.00 or 2 non-perishable food items. NOTE: Each non-perishable food item donated is equivalent to $1.00 and can be used to get in food tasting/judging and for putting qualification. Non-perishable food donations are great!

A huge THANKS to this event's generous sponsors: Phenix Disc Sports, Breckenridge Beer and Mile High Billiards!

Come on out, eat some chili, make some putts and have fun!

P.S. More info will be coming out soon from Phenix that will probably spell things out a little clearer.

Thanks Big Mac for stepping in and getting some of the original info out there for everybody. Now that internet and the store is back up and running I can take some time to inform people of some of the fine details of this years events. Please read all the way to the bottom for all of the details.

Mile High Billiards is going to be the host of this years festivities.
11651 W 64th Ave
Unit B3
Arvada, CO 80004

Chili Cook-Off drop off will start at 8am at Mile High Billiards. This should allow plenty of time for people to still get out and sign/warm up before Winter Warriors at Bird's Nest. Please provide a crock pot and a ladle. It is recommended to make more then just a crock pot full in case people enjoy your chili and want to sample it again and again.

Putting Competition:
Some slight modifications have been made after initial feedback of just having 32 spots available for the putting competition. There will be a total of 48 spots available. 16 spots will be RESERVED for the first 16 cooks that commit to bringing a chili. Those 16 chefs will still pay $10 to be in the putting comp, but will have a spot RESERVED and earn an automatic FIRST ROUND BYE.
The 32 remaining spots will be for qualifying. Highest 32 scores will get in and be seeded based on qualifying score. Any player can choose to Re-Qualify for $2. Ties for the final spots may be subject to a play-in battle royale of some sort. If more then 16 competitors bring chili, then the 32 spots will be decreased to accommodate the additional chefs.

To simplify it:
$10 to putt
$2 to try to retry
All players must post a qualifying score.
Bring a chili, and guarantee your spot to putt.
Commit to bringing a chili early, get a first round bye.

There will be prizes and awards for competitors for the chili and the putting competition.

Like to thanks the sponsors for the event:
Venue Sponsor, Mile High Billiards. Owner is a long time disc golfer and wants to make disc golfers welcome.
Beer and Prize Sponsor, Breckenridge Brewery. Working on getting a beer special in house with Breckenridge, and will have plenty prizes for those who are interested.

Side note: Please PM me if you are interested in bringing a chili, volunteering, or taking part in a charity poker tournament for disc golfers.

Thanks for everyone's support and excitement for the event. This is one of the things that I look forward to every year.

What a great response we have already gotten from people to do chilis. At this time only 4 of the 16 reserved chili chef spots are left.

On a side note, the Ugly Sweater conversation needs to be revisited. Had some very creative winners last year.
let the smack talk begins. Speaking of which, has anyone seen or heard from Mr Beardo? (Justin Celmer?)

Putting Comp Rules
Qualifying Round:
4 stations 2 putts per station
Perfect score is 20 pts
30 seconds to complete
Station 1; 1 point per disc made
Station 2; 2 point per disc made
Station 3; 3 point per disc made
Station 4; 4 point per disc made
If not completed in 31 seconds, a 2 point penalty will be assessed to your total score. If not completed in 41 seconds a 5 point penalty will be assessed to your total score.

Bracket Round:
First 2 rounds, or down to the sweet 16, will be timed just like qualifying.
All following rounds will be head to head, per station. Player A putts both putts, then player B putts both putts. Lower seeded player will have the option on who goes first. In an event of 2 people with the same seed meet, it will resort to highest score from prior round . If that is a tie it will resort to a coin flip. Person with higher age calls the flip.

Distances are not set for the entire competition. Distances for all rounds before the sweet 16 will be inside of the circle. No distances will exceed 50' at any point in the competition.

Smack talking is not only allowed but encouraged. No physical contact.

Full throws will not be tolerated at any point inside of the establishment. Any player seen or caught throwing in a non-putting motion, will be disqualified and asked to immediately leave the building. We are guests in Mile High Billiards, and I would like to be invited back in the future.

What a great turn out for such a cold day. Still putting together final numbers for the Chili CookOff, and will post that soon.
Congrats to Scott Osterhoudt winning with his green chili.
Jonathan Kamm takes home the first place honors with his red chili.
Robert Nichols took down this years Putting Title in a close match with Big Jake.
Big thanks again to or gracious host Mile High Billiards. That was hands down the best facilities to host a Chili CookOff. Hoping to be back there next year.
Also another big thanks to ToeKnee and all the boys from Breckenridge Brewery that made sure there was more then enough beers for everyone around.
And finally the biggest thanks to EVERYONE that came out support. Without all of you, these events would never be as fun or as successful as they are every year.
